National Engineer's Day

Every year, the India celebrates 15 September  as National Engineer’s Day.This day is celebrated to appreciate the contributions of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. The Bharat Ratna awardee.
He was born in September 15, 1861 in a village called Muddenahali in Karnataka. 
He was awarded ‘Knight’ in 1915 as a commander of the British Indian empire by King George V. He received the Bharat Ratna in 1955. He became a member of the London Institution of Civil Engineers thenafter he was awarded a fellowship by the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore.

He had successfully designed and constructed several river dams, bridges and revolutionized the irrigation system in India by implementing irrigation and drinking water system.
He also designed and patented the automatic weir water floodgates, first installed at the Khadakwasla reservoir, Pune 1903.He breathed his last in 1962
